Faeriestruck

A young runaway sells their family out to a changeling in exchange for an adventure in Faerieland. Featuring puppetry designed by Kyleigh Archer with found and recycled materials, it is a touching simple tale and bigger environmental ramifications. Faeriestruck is bizarre spectacle for adults and children alike. In her journey, she befriends a cluricaun, mermaids, pixies, and gets tangled up in the Seelie King and Unseelie King’s story. But it wouldn’t be the first time a human meddled with the affairs of the fae folk.

Faeriestruck’s strongest theme is that it’s never too late to take control of your actions and do what’s right. To highlight this, the entirety of the show is made from recycled materials. Every puppet, costume, set piece, prop, and gel have either been recycled, made from recycled materials, or is re-used in a new and unconventional manner. The cast and crew of the production worked together to collect items from their own homes, as well as from their friends and co-workers.

At the end of the run, the show was broken down. Certain items were returned to their owners, and the rest, made out of recycled materials, were separated and disposed of properly.

Kyleigh Archer strives to influence theatre to take a greener path, by re-using and re-imagining props and set via design, or literally using recycled materials to create new items. Theatres can also learn to support each other and the delicate balance of the industry’s economy by renting/borrowing out to others more, or donating before throwing away. An example are the hundreds of newspapers used in multiple productions of “Newsies” were donated for the paper mache of many puppets featured in the production.

New work. new theatre.
